Memorial Performance

Dear Friend,

On February 4, we all experienced a truly one-of-a-kind, emotional memorial performance in honor of Paul Taylor, our founder and a legend in the dance world. You were part of an audience of Mr. Taylor’s closest friends and supporters, among those who fueled his vision with generous giving, as well as loyal attendance.

Together we delighted in seeing four of Mr. Taylor’s most beloved pieces: Aureole, Musical Offering, Troilus & Cressida (reduced), and Beloved Renegade, performed by the Paul Taylor Dance Company and the Taylor 2 Company to live music by our esteemed partners, Orchestra of St. Luke’s. These timeless works – along with the entire Taylor canon of 147 dances – serve as the pillars of our organization as we move ahead to fulfill Mr. Taylor’s mandate of creating a New York-based home for American modern dance at Lincoln Center.

Mr. Taylor left us with a clear vision for the future, appointing Taylor dancer Michael Novak as his successor and engaging me, his Executive Director, with direction to assist Mr. Novak and see that all that’s planned is implemented. He, himself, gave generously these past few years to initiate Paul Taylor American Modern Dance.

We are now at a transformative moment. It is time to consider your most significant gift ever to the Paul Taylor Dance Foundation, as it identifies and produces the best of the new work of today’s choreographers; preserves and produces masterpieces of Paul Taylor and the other founders of modern dance to ensure future generations might appreciate them; and presents the world-class Paul Taylor Dance Company as it continues to dance all the Paul Taylor repertoire you have come to love.

Without you, Mr. Taylor could not have done what he has done, nor left us with what we have today. Help us now to honor Paul Taylor’s wish and build an equally engaging and important future with what we have and the best dance of today and tomorrow.

Sincerely,

John Tomlinson
Executive Director
