“PLEASE JOIN ME FOR AN HISTORIC SEASON.
Sixty years after I started my own company, I’m embarking on an important new venture: PAUL TAYLOR’S AMERICAN MODERN DANCE. I’m determined to bring the very best works in our art of modern dance to the nation’s preeminent performance venue, Lincoln Center. I plan to give new life to great works of the past, and commission other choreographers so modern dance can flourish well into the future. When my dancers return to New York in March, they will perform two new dances and 17 other works of mine dating back to 1962. We will also present two modern dances I admire. Doris Humphrey’s influential work from the 1930s, Passacaglia, will be performed by the venerable José Limón Dance Company. And Shen Wei Dance Arts will perform Rite of Spring, Mr. Shen’s brilliant take on the legendary Stravinsky score. It’s important to me that dance be presented with live musical accompaniment when intended, so we are teaming up with the renowned Orchestra of St. Luke’s, conducted by my friend and long-time collaborator, Donald York. It’s bound to be a magnificent season, and I hope to see you often in March.”
